baby shower

we bought the family expansion pack1 and want to celebrate with you!

location: minnehaha park2, wabun c

schedule: arrive by 10 am—grab a drink and help us decorate some toys for the baby! games start shortly thereafter and lunch is served at 11. there will be a chance to write special wishes and take part in more spirited activities before dessert. the party officially3 ends at 2 pm.

note about the food & drinks: we’re serving pizza (with vegan and gluten-free options for those who need it) and side salads. there will also be drinks (seltzer, soda, non-alcoholic beer, etc.) and cake!

minnehaha park is ADA accessible and has accessible bathrooms.

  1. An expansion pack is an add-on for an existing video game or board game which incorporates new stories, maps, characters, and rules. This is an ironic joke! To be clear: we are not, in any literal sense, suggesting that a baby is a video game, or that a family is a video game, or that the addition of a new family member is comparable to the purchase of a game supplement. We are using the term “expansion pack” as a comparison. The humor is in the comparison. The comparison is funny because the two things are not similar, which is a well-known source of comedy.   2. The park is named after Minnehaha Falls, a small waterfall in the park. The name “Minnehaha” is from the Dakota language. The popular translation is “laughing water,” though Wikipedia advises that “waterfall” or “curling water” is more literal (mni, meaning water, and ȟaȟa, meaning waterfall). We are including this footnote because we looked it up and found this out, and we think it is a fun fact to include in a footnote on a baby shower website. We are aware of all of this.   3. “Officially” is an adverb. It means “in an official capacity” or “as a matter of record.” In the context of a baby shower, “the party officially ends at 2 pm” means that 2 pm is the time at which we will stop serving food and drinks, and at which you are expected to leave. This is a suggestion, not a law. We understand that you might want to stay longer, or that you might want to leave earlier, or that you might want to join us at the lake for an afternoon canoeing escapade.
